The Legend of Zelda: A Link to The Past

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to The Past. Any gamer that is true to Nintendo, and even many that play other systems such as Playstation know this name. It's a world-wide known Super Nintendo classic. After the fall of The Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, Nintendo knew that they had to do this right. Taking it step by step, Nintendo soon had a giant, thrilling adventure game at a crisp overhead view like that of Legend of Zelda, but much better. The game was an instant favourite among all the Super Nintendo gamers, and stayed at the top of charts for the longest time. This game is based before the Legend of Zelda and The Adventure of Link, when Ganon was just a simple mortal named Ganondorf, and he was the King of Theieves. There is so many items in Link's inventory and arsenal to try out, and two whole different worlds, each some-how alike, one called the Light World, the other called the Dark World. As Link, you can pass through each world with special warps and a very special item called the Magic Mirror. This is a fantasy adventure that no one should want to miss out on, so don't. Read this review, and find out if you think the game is worth buying, renting, or if it's worth going for a different type. Off we go...
The story goes some what like this: The horrible King of Theives Ganondorf who controlled a gigantic, vast army of his own. With use of this giant army, the evil theif soon had the Triforce and Golden Land to his power. He renamed himself Ganon with this dark, mysterious magic. Ruling the world was easy, Ganon was victorious in very little time and everyone feared him. But the power of Seven Sages proved to be too much for the evil King, and they locked him away in the Golden Land for good. The Golden Land was renamed the Dark World and all entrances were blocked off. This time was soon forgotten. Years later, few remembered the dark incident and it was a beautiful golden era in the crisp land of Hyrule. That was until floods, earthquakes, fire, and many more natural disasters struck all over Hyrule. All the Hylian ran in horror, until a travelling wizard named Agahnim came to the land. No one knew where he really came from, but he immediately used his magic to stop the disasters, and the King named him Chancellor. In very little time, the new "Chancellor" took over the castle, killed the King, and captured the descendants of the Seven sages. But, Agahnim also captured the King's young daughter Princess Zelda. It was almost lucky that he did this, because Zelda, sitting in the back of a cell, telepathically sent a distressed call to anyone that could hear. The person who heard happened to be Link, and he saved the Princess. Afterwards, Link collected the three pendants and retreived the legendary blade itself, the Master Sword! He defeated Agahnim, but then discovered that Agahnim was only something like a puppet, he was what Ganon was using to open up the Golden Land again. This is when Ganon was discovered to be the main villain of the game.
You start off as Link. After you've saved Princess Zelda, and escaped from Hyrule Castle, you'll find yourself in Hyrule. As you go along through Hyrule, you'll have to defeat more enemies, bosses, and there will be much to do. You'll discover the void between the Light World and the evil Golden Land, now renamed the Dark World. Nintendo did this game right, each dungeon is harder then the next, and it always seems that there's more to do. Even once you've beaten the game there's still heart pieces and other things to collect around Hyrule. The game is incredibly long, and you'll discover this as it unravels throughout the game. Secret after secret, story after story, the game gets more intense, and it will make you want to play for hours on end, maybe even days. In the Light World you just collect three special magic pendants that you need to unlock the sacred Master Sword itself. But in the Dark World, there is seven (yes, seven), mysterious crystals you will need to find, each hidden in a new exciting dungeon. Once you unlock the seven maidens, you will have your ending battle. But will you remain victorious? It's your decision in the crisp, golden land of Hyrule.
Each character has their own new and exciting personality. The characters aren't as clean and important as in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, but some still play a huge role in the game. Of course, the two main characters are the Hero of Time, Link, and the incredible Princess Zelda. But then they are other important characters. Sahrasahla the elder helps you out alot in the Light World, he's the one that tells you where to go, what to do, and marks the pendants on your map. Sahrasahla is a very important character, and he even speaks to you in the dungeons in the Light World telepathically, and sometimes does in the Dark World. But, once you have the Master Sword, this elder can no longer give you much help. The seven maidens are obviously very important in the game, they tell you much of the story and they are the ones you are saving, besides Princess Zelda. As I said, characters aren't nearly as important in this as in Ocarina of Time, but some still do play a role. Of course, the main villains are Ganon and his "puppet" Agahnim, they are the ones who captured the seven maidens and Princess Zelda, reopened the Golden Land, and did many other evil things. Link's ultimate rival is Ganon, and their fight lasted a very long time, as they clashed and clashed for long. There is some mystery with the characters in this game, and this mystery slowly unravels throughout the tale, and this is also something that makes you want to keep playing, because the suspense, like in most Zelda games, is incredible.
There are MANY items in this game, even more than that of Ocarina of Time. In your house at the very beginning of the game, you can find your lantern. You can also find it in the second room of Hyrule Castle or next to Princess Zelda in her cell. Either way, it comes in handy, but you don't use it much, it's mostly just for the beginning of the game. You get your first sword in Hyrule Castle, but it has no name. It's just a simple little sword that does some damage. In this game you can get Boomerangs, Bombs, Bow and Arrows, a Magic Hammer, a Hook Shot, and much, much more. Of course, the Magic Mirror is the biggest item in the game. You'll find yourself using it all over the place. You use it to travel from the Dark World to the Light World, and then a warp will appear where you were. Simply go through that warp again to go back to the Dark World, or use the warp under the overhang at Hyrule Castle. You'll find yourself using the Magic Mirror to get into many dungeons, get new items, and just simply to move around Hyrule. There are three Magical Medallions that you use in the game, two are needed and one is just for extra. They usually kill all the enemies on the screen, but the Ether freezes them or makes them enemies that can't do anything. All of the magic is very important. Different bosses and baddies need different items to be used on them to kill them, but most of the time you'll find yourself using your sword. Speaking of Swords, when you have full health, the Master Sword shoots a whirling beam. Althought it only does half of the damage a slash to the enemy does, it can be helpful in many places. The inventory is very important and alot of the time it helps you with puzzles. Some of the puzzles in this game are exceedingly tough, and many people have fallen to walkthroughs, etc. to beat them.
The music in this game is pretty good. It sounds alot like that of the Ocarina of Time music, and it sounds alot like a midi also. Many midis that are made sound just like the real sounds from the game, but some others don't. It depends what midi you are listening to. Some of the music is very good and fitting. The Zelda theme song works perfectly in the Overworld of the Light World, but in the Dark World, the tune is more fitting to the evil surroundings. The dungeon and cave music is all very fitting also, it's dark and evil sounding, but still fits the idea of just a cave or dungeon. The sound effects are VERY simple, the simple sounds of swords clashing, etc. Almost every weapon has it's own sound effect, but they are not very big ones, just small simple little sounds, like the smack of the hammer, or the Magic Potions being drinken. When you kill a baddie it's just a simple popping sound as they disappear. The bosse music is good and the music when you battle Agahnim is even better. I can't even go on about Ganon's music. Some of my favourite sounds from this game is the Lost Woods in the Light World. The music is AMAZING and fits the forest surrounds perfectly, I like it much more than the cheery, happy sounds of the Lost Woods in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. All the music in this game is good and fits where it is, and the sound effects are nice and simple, but very clear and very crisp. I'd give the music of this game a great rating.
